The friendly staff, well placed on promenade. Excellent suite-We were upgraded to the Chuuchill suite which as superb overlooking promenade and Douglas Bay. Able to enter shopping street in 30 yds Excellent breakfast.

Once had no room to park car.

    Everything ok, but see below.

The swimming pool/sauna area lets you down. Could do with a bit of redecoration and smarten up to 4star standard. The floor level in the red lift, the only one we used, did not line up with the hotel floor. This could cause someone to trip and fall.

A wonderful stay. Staff so extremely helpful. When we arrived we were given a complementary upgrade to one of the 5 star suites. Food fantastic and the room was cleaned perfectly each day with a lovely turndown service. Wifi in the rooms which was an added bonus. Bathroom had a tv and spa bath in it. Nice and luxurious. Breakfast was lovely with plenty of everything you would want. Couldnt recommend this hotel highly enough.

Only one disappointment. "Sir Normans" bar was a sham. Not in terms of size or layout but in terms of service. We ate there two nights to see if there would be a difference the 2nd night. Staff were too busy chatting amongst themselves to notice people waiting to order. Then when they took the orders they didnt take them down correctly as happened with a few tables on the same evenings. Waiting for the bill was another ordeal. There was no courtesy from staff a thank you or please which I found very unusual. I know they say that this bar is casual but this is over casual and staff in the bar I felt were really in need of a good manager watching and training their every move to improve their skills dramatically.

Excellent quality of rooms and food. Ser5vice excellent.

Disappointed that The Pool was not available (we were compensated). Our stay was marred by someone breaking into our room and safe and stealing money. (Hotel dealt with problem instantly and refunded us for loss of cash) Police are currently dealing with the incident BUT it did spoil our stay in I.O.M.

Good location with fantastic view from room (sea view room) nice breakfast with plenty of choice including a la carte options It was very handy being able to pop in to Sir Norman's bar next door for drinks in the evening without the need to venture out

Swimming pool was closed for maintenance. You would think they would do this in low season or overnight if need be. Would have been nice to have used it as weather was fantastic during our stay a la carte items for breakfast was very nice, however it took 20 minutes for some poached eggs to be cooked, you need to have plenty of time for these items to be cooked

The location, the size of the rooms and the breakfast.

Can only give a poor mark for facilities because the swimming pool, sauna and steam room were not open for the length of our stay ( 5 days). We were still required to pay the full amount for our stay.

Great weekend. All other foods we ate (including room service which was fast) where hot and to a good standard. Staff freindly and polite with good sense of humour...NICE Thank you

First morning the bacon was cold and the fried eggs swimming in a sea of fat, and the scrambled eggs where to liquid.

Good location as long as it is not Manx gp ot tt week. Good breakfast .

Had a room with a sea view - bad idea in Manx gp week as beer tent was on the prom opposite hotel with live , loud music till midnight. Room was dated and hot.

I stayed here on a recommendation, and was glad I took it up. Hotel was pretty faultless really. My room was huge considering I only booked a standard double (having two balconies and a separate small 'living room' would be classed as a small suite in most other hotels). Staff were all very friendly and helpful. I only ate in the 'Sir Norman' restaurant, which was very nice. The other restaurant looked top notch as well but I never got chance to eat there. Breakfast was fine and the bay view was a nice start to the day. It's a tad on the expensive side, but worth it. Would definitely recommend it.

Checkout was a little slow, but that's nitpicking really. Service was otherwise spot on.

A really nice hotel, a little shabby in places but still a classic.

The decor in Sir Normans bar kills the atmosphere, get a designer in!

I liked the location, and the food was good. Parking was welcome.

During my 3 night stay, the lift failed, which the staff hadn't noticed. My bedroom though spacious, had a carpet that showed many stains. Another visitor, a keen swimmer, bemoaned the fact that the pool was out of action. There is no residents' lounge, seating is very limited in the foyer. The 'library' is a joke.

  • Older travelers

Location was very central to Douglas

Thought the hotel was in need of a facelift, appearance was shabby which was contray to what I had been led to believe, dissapointing given that the cost for a room was significantly more expensive than other considered options.
